CDYS Buttevant Youth Club
Set up in 2011, the CDYS Buttevant youth club is better know locally as Ogra Spraoi. It runs every Thursday night from 7:45 to 9pm in the Muintir na Tire Hall. Parents, boys and girls aged 12 to 18 are welcome.
The CDYS Buttevant Youth Club held their official opening in front of a large crowd in the Muintir Na Tire hall in October 2011.
The club, which is affiliated to CDYS Youth Work Ireland, is the result of months of planning by local volunteers led by Mairead Behan, Christine Heffernan, Noel Coleman, Conor Guinane, Howard O’Regan, Alan Edwards and Tim O’Callaghan.
The night began with the official cutting of the ribbon by local councillor Tom Sheahan before the young people of the club entertained the crowd with some marvellous singing and dancing displays.
Chairperson Mairead Behan thanked everyone for the support and advice in starting up the club. She particularly thanked CDYS Youth Workers Miriam Nyhan and Susan O’Shea saying “The town of Buttevant has badly needed a youth club for many years as young people need a safe and secure space to hang out. Without the advice of the CDYS youth workers this would not have been possible”.
Mairead also stressed the need for more volunteers in order to ensure the future of the club. She especially urged the parents of the young people of the club to get involved saying “without volunteers they club would not be possible”.
