Cobh Garda Youth Diversion Project
Run in co-ordination with An Garda Siochána, the Diversion project has been a huge success in the CDYS area.
The project is funded by The Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform. We also receive funding from The European Social Fund.
There are two diversion projects being run in CDYS, the Mallow Garda Youth Diversion Project (MYDP) and Feabhas Garda Youth Diversion Project (Feabhas GYDP) in Cobh.
The project aims to:
Participation Participation on the project is on a referral basis. We run regular groups and one to one work where activities are formulated around a young persons needs.
Feabhas Garda Youth Diversion Cobh
Feabhas GYDP works with young people in Cobh aged 12-18 years old. The project encourages participation in individual and group work, provides information and facilitates activities that engage young people’s growth and development. The project works also closely with schools and other agencies in the wider community.
Feabhas facilitates a number of programmes such as health promotion, beauty and make-up, IT, photography, film making, peer education and mentoring. All programmes run for 12 weeks and are planned and evaluated together with our volunteers.
The programmes are run as part of the Gaisce Award and the aim is that more young people will follow through and get their award during 2010.
Outside of the 12 week programmes, Feabhas run activities such as yoga, street performance, football and dancing which are open to all young people in Cobh.
“I really like coming to the Parish Centre as the people that work here are very supportive and helpful to us”.
