CDYS Youth Work Ireland

We aim to provide an environment which gives youths the opportunity to learn and enjoy themselves at the club in a safe and fun place. Since the beginning we have encouraged the youths to take as much ownership of the club as possible and to this end we have encouraged them to form a committee true democratic elections. This is without a shadow of a doubt our primary focuses as we look to grow and develop as a group.

The joy of working with young people has fueled  the adult leaders to put all we can into our meetings on Wednesday nights in an attempt to both educate the kids and ensure they leave the parish centre with a smile on their face.

To do this we have chosen to employ aspects of two of the primary models of youth work which are of course personal development model and the critical social education model and by employing both of these we hope to help all of the kids throughout the difficult transition from teenager to adulthood.

Drawing on all the skills and experience of the leaders we are currently encouraging and supporting the youths in completing their Gaisce awards, we already have some bronze and silver with some going for Gold. In addition to this we have organized a number of speakers to come in and talk to the youths about a number of issues including teenage homelessness, suicide awareness and LGBT rights. In the forth coming months in addition to this we will regularly hold debates encouraging youths to discuss issues which are affecting them and society as a whole.

Dance4Life
CDYS-Cobh are now taking names for module 2 of the dance4life program. The skills4ife is a four-hour comprehensive sexual health session which  is being delivered as part of the Relationships and Sexuality curriculum that is already being delivered to secondary schools and Youth clubs and Centers.  We have 30 places on offer to the community and this would benifit teenagers,  youth leaders and those in the voluntary Sector. Places will be limited to those who will role out the program and the  young people who take a place will  be advocates in spreading the information.   If you are interested in a place please contact us on 0863065517 for further details.  There is no charge for this training so please make contact.   

NEW DJ COURSE

We would like to welcome our very own in house DJ Mikey, Mikey will be running a DJ course here for the young people. I think is going to be a cracker of a project for the lads & girls, everyone is really looking forward to it.
