The Good Lives Project held our Graduation Evening on Friday 28th November where the students of 2015/16 received their FETAC Certificates. The evening was a wonderful celebration of the hard work and achievement of the students where families as well as members of the community joined us to celebrate.
There were a number of guest speakers including Brian Williams Chief Executive of the CDYS, Des Holton from The Linkage Programme, and Andreas Moynihan a local TD who also presented the certificates. Cathy O’ Sullivan, Stuart Putley, and Korina Toth kindly spoke about their experiences of the last two courses and the general consensus was that the course has given participants a boost of confidence as well as new skills, knowledge and expertise which they can apply to the workplace, learning and social environments.
‘The Good Lives Project’ is a local training initiative at CDYS Macroom and is a partnership between the Cork Education Training Board (CETB) and CDYS. The aim of the project is to provide opportunities to engage in a range of activities that enable participants to take advantage of further training, education or employment options. The course is based around FETAC Level 4 Full Award in Sport and Recreation with the option of horticulture.
As a health and fitness programme we recognise that exercise releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good, boosting your self-esteem and help concentrate as well as sleep, look and feel better. A positive mental attitude contributes to your overall wellbeing and is experienced when you can realise your own abilities, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productivity and fruitfully, and make a contribution to your community. We feel that this course enables participants to engage in activities that provide a sense of physical as well as mental well being and our emphasis would be on individual support and progression so is particularly beneficial to anyone who is finding it difficult to access further education or employment.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped make the evening so special including the students and their families, members of the local community, guest speakers and volunteers who worked so hard to make this a unique and special occasion.
