CDYS Youth Work Ireland

One to one support is where a trained CDYS volunteer or staff person meets with a young person regarding an individual need of that young person. A young person can be referred by an agency, a school, a parent or indeed themselves. One to one work runs for a minimum of 6 weeks and the focus of the work is decided between the worker & the young person from the outset. Most of the work is discussion based but can also involve worksheets, creative approaches, factual information giving. The role of the worker is to be a non-judgemental listener, offering a safe and understanding space for the young person.

Examples of one to one programs are that of the Teen Between service as well as the support offered by the community drugs workers & youth diversion workers.

One to one support is offered by all CDYS projects in Mallow, Midleton, Fermoy, Cobh & Macroom. A youth council is a committee of young people which meets and discusses issues which effect them. This committee would then feed into an adult committee for change.
